mingun-04Explore to Mingun - the opposite site of Mandalay, crossing Ayeyarwaddy River by private boat. Visit the second largest ringing bell, huge unfinished pagoda and so on...

Pick up from your Hotel in Mandalay at 08:00 and transfer to jetty to take an hour boat ride to Mingun - 11 km up the Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwaddy) River on the west bank from Mandalay. River is alive with witness locals transport their goods on bamboo rafts and wooden boats.

We will visit:-

Pahtodawgyi Pagoda – one of the famous monuments in the world. It is also known as the world's largest unfinished pagoda. There are all together 174 steps to climb to the top. The scenery is marvelous from the top of the Pagoda. You can view natural scenic beauty of Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwaddy) River and green and pleasant Minwun Hill.

World second largest Mingun Bell - 55,555 viss (90 tons) in weight and about 13 feet tall. This number is conveniently remembered by many people in Myanmar as "Min Hpyu Hman Hman Pyaw", with the consonants representing the number 5 in Burmese astronomy and numerology. The weight of the bell and its mnemonic words are written on the surface of the bell in white. The bell is un-cracked and in good ringing condition. The bell does not have a clinger but is rung by striking the outer edge.

Then visit to Hsinbyume also known as Myatheindan- a large pagoda on the northern side of Mingun.
The pagoda is painted white and design is a great departure from Burmese pagoda design norms. It is based on descriptions of the mythical Sulamani pagoda on Mount Meru, and the lower parts of the pagoda represent the mountain. Seven concentric terraces represent the seven mountain ranges going up to the Mount Meru according to Buddhist mythology.

Return to Mandalay and have lunch at local restaurant by your own account.

The next city we visit Inwa or Ava. It is an ancient imperial capital of successive Burmese kingdoms from the 14th to 19th centuries. Throughout history, it was sacked and rebuilt numerous times. The capital city was finally abandoned after it was completely destroyed by a series of major earthquakes in March 1839. Though only a few traces of its former grandeur remain today, the former capital is a popular day-trip tourist destination from Mandalay. Inwa means “Mouth of the Lake” in Burmese, and it is located on an island between the Ayeyarwady and the Myitnge River. Today, Inwa contains the spectacular ruins of an ancient city.

Arrive there, ride a horse cart through the ancient city wall. First, visit Maha Aung Myay Bozan Monastery, know as Mae Nu Oak Kyaung - traditionally made, brick and stucco monastery. Second, visit Nanmyin Watch Tower, a learning tower which is what remains of the royal palace of the 19th Century. And visit. Bagaya Monastery – a unique and picturesque wooden monastery. Then rest for a while by villages to observe local crafts, silk weaving, alms bowl making and mat making

After the full day tour in Mingun and Inwa (Ava), our guide transfers to you to the hotel and say good night.

Dear May,

My turn to wish you and your team all the very best for 2016.

I take this opportunity to thank you for all the arrangements you made for us in Myammar, especially in having appointed Bobo as a guide, he is great.
Just for your info the hotel in Mandalay should not be used for a certain time because they are building a new part of the hotel and it surely will be very noisy the next months....

I keep your contacts ,first to give them to friends if they wish to travel in Myramar, they surely can contact you directly, and also for myself as I intend to return toThandwe to the beach and will need you help for flights etc.

All the best and kind regards

Our 14 day trip in Myanmar was fabulous. Mandalay Holidays listened to what we were asking for. We always travel on our own but this trip was in 5 different cities from mountains to the lake and then the beach. We knew that we needed assistance for the trip as Myanmar is just developing in tourism and most of things like in-country flight options are pretty restricted. Traveling to and around Myanmar is not necessarily as convenient as in other countries. MH helped us with everything from soup to nuts. They handled every single details perfectly starting from air tickets, ferry tickets, rental cars, hotels, private boat excursions, just to name a few. It would have been incredibly time- consuming trying to do everything ourselves. MH made our lives easier.

They also got nice partners everywhere we hit. During 4 day boat trip in Inle Lake which is in remote area of the country, my stomach had a little problem and needed ORS powder. The boat driver, U Pa Soe, tried his best to bring me to get a professional treatment which was absolutely hard to do there. First he brought me to the community hospital but the doctor was not on duty. He then arranged me to see the only nurse of that village but unluckily she just had pills not fit to my symptoms (but I got full attention and sympathy of her family members instead ;) ). In the gloomy sky and very cold weather, he managed to hop me from village to village until I finally found what I want. So impressive!
Since then MH is our best choice for exploring Myanmar many times. Just give them our interests and leave it to them!

Dear Adam,
Axiata Group Board of Directors Meeting, Myanmar 20-24 Nov
As you know, Axiata Group Board of Directors had chosen Myanmar as the location for their last Board of Directors Meeting in 2014 and the board meeting included tours of Yangon and Bagan. The event went well and has just successfully concluded. The Board of Directors and I are very pleased with the services rendered by MANDALAY HOLIDAYS during our stay and I would like to convey our appreciation to your team headed by Ms. May Oo Thaw who worked very hard to ensure we had a safe and comfortable stay.

My team informed me that it has been very challenging to put this event together as November is peak season over there in Myanmar and we did trouble you with some last minute changes and demands for only the best for our Board of Directors. Nevertheless, MANDALAY HOLIDAYS had responded in the most efficient manner and delivered beyond our expectation.

Ms. May has been very diligent and hands on in managing this event and had assembled a team of experienced people, particularly. A few of the board members are already planning a return trip to Bagan on their own and I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to use the services of MANDALAY HOLIDAYS. Special thanks to May, Steven and Banya for their dedication and to you for facilitating a successful meeting and a memorable of Myanmar.

Warmest regards,
JAMALUDIN IBRAHIM
