Myanmar being composed of diverse national ethnic tribes residing in various ranges of mountainous areas, one can not only enjoy the natural beauty of its picturesque landscape but also explore the civilizations and cultures of its numerous ethnic groups at the same time. Trekking trips can be made all over Myanmar, but around Putao in the Kachin State, the Chin State, the Kalaw region, the Inle Lake and its surroundings and the Kyaington area in the Shan State, are the places worth trekking. Mindat and Kanpetlet in the southern Chin State and Kyaington and its nearby villages are must for those who want to do both trekking and observation of the national ethnic tribes’ traditions and customs.
Kyaikhtiyo or the Golden Rock of Myanmar is located in Kyaikhto, Mon State. One can travel from Yangon to the base mountain range, which is the main base camp of the journey. It is about 160km from Yangon and the hiking range is 11km from the base camp. The Golden Rock is located on top of the rocky mountain above 3615 feet above sea level. KALAW ,PINDAYA AND INLE
You could start your trek to Shan mountain range. The dwellers of the southeast Shan mountain ranges are the Pao, Palaung and Danu. Trekking trips starts from passing through some PaO, Palaung and Danu Villages. The trip takes about 1 to 1½ hours from one village to another. One can learn and see the way of lives of the different Shan races. The most significant element for tourists to see are the long houses of the tribes where several families stayed together, earning a living from the cultivation of seasonal crops and cheroot leaves used by the Burmese homemade cigar to wrap the cheroot. The trekking tripscould be done as half day trekking, one night stop trekking or more.
Extendable from Heho by flight, Kyaing Tong is known for its scenic beauty and many colourful ethnic tribes. There are many villages of various ethnic tribes resided around Kyaing Tong. The tribes known as Gon, Lwe, Li, Wa, Lah Hu, Thai Nay, Shan, Li Shaw, Li Su, Palaung, Akha, and we can only differentiate the tribes by colourful dresses which is different to one another.
